Are you tired of assigning security roles to users based on their AAD Security Group? Discover this article on Dynamics 365 teams AAD Security Group.

Well, here are the good news: There is a possibility to link a Dynamics 365 team to an AAD Security Group.

  1. Create a new Dynamics 365 team
    • Team Type: AAD Security Group

    • Azure AD Object Id for a group: <<AAD Security Group Id>>

  2. Assign security role(s) to the team

After this, when a user is added to the AAD Security Group, the user will be added automatically to the Dynamics 365 team and can consume the privileges of the team. And if the user will be removed from the AAD Security Group, the user will be removed from the Dynamics 365 team too.

Please consider, that this Dynamics 365 teams belong to a business unit as well. Therefore, you would have to organize the AAD Security groups accordingly.

Hello Fabian, nice article and I am currently having a scenario to use a DYNAMIC group in AD. Will it be possible to use a Dynamics group in AD as a Group Team?

Hi Kailash, thanks for reaching out.

Unfortunately, this is not supported (yet). As per documentation of MS: "Both types of Azure AD groups — Office and Security — with a Membership type Assigned can be used to secure user-access rights. Membership type Dynamic User and Dynamic Device is not supported." Manage group teams - Power Platform | Microsoft Docs

If it will be available in the future, I can't tell.

Best, Fabian
